Bororen State School offers an extensive leadership program for our senior students.  We embrace the philosophy that each and every senior student is a leader and we foster leadership skills in all of our senior students, by providing a range of programs and opportunities to develop these skills.

Our Student Leaders run our Student Council, which implements major initiatives, such as Caring for Our Bororen Family, Kindness Day and Saying No Way to Bullying.  They compere whole school events, talk on assemblies, assist with sports carnivals and Christmas Tree night.  Students are offered an array of opportunities to demonstrate leadership in their final year at Bororen.

Leading up to their final year students are offered the opportunity to be class captains for a term.  Being nominated and then voted in by peers and teachers to the class captain is an honour and important role within our school.  Additionally, giving each class representation allows all students within the school to have a voice.

When nominating themselves for this position, students need to be aware that this is a large responsibility, but also a privilege.

Throughout the term a class captain will:

  • Represent their class by gathering data and providing information and suggestions to their Student Council Meetings.
  • Attend meetings with the Student Council.
  • Provide feedback to their class about Student council decisions/meeting outcomes.
  • Work in close coordination with Chappy Cathy and Classroom teachers.
  • Receive leadership training.
  • Provide wellbeing to the class as the need arises - this could be in the form of offering support, passing on concerns, being able to inform students of correct processes and protocols in relation to wellbeing
  • Organise class events in consultation with the Principal and Student Council.
  • Promote class participation in school extra curricula activities or events
  • Support the Senior leaders to run whole school activities/initiatives
  • Complete any additional tasks as requested by the Principal and classroom teachers

Students interested in taking on this role are to provide their teacher with a written nomination, stating why they want a leadership role and what they think they can bring to it. Once the nominations are complete the nominees will need to prepare a speech to deliver to their class. Once this has been done the class will need to vote for their chosen representative.
